Family

Shri Haribhai Kothari was born on November 4, 1939 at Mumbai in India. He is a son of Shri Velji Chagpar Kothari and Smt. Velbai Kothari. His family settled in Mulund - a suburb in the city of Mumbai, when he was three years old. His family was highly religious and was a good follower of Indian culture. His father, who had wool business, had a great faith on religion and Indian culture. He was devotee of Goddess Gayatrima and was regularly used to study Bhagvad Gita. He was gifted with an art of presenting difficult and complicated subjects with great ease with relevant examples. He was also quite generous and also had very helpful nature. Similarly Haribhai's mother too was highly religious and was devotee of Lord Shiva and Goddess Amba. She had a great capacity to remember stories and had an art of presenting these stories in a very interesting manner. Therefore Haribhai was fortunate enough to listen a story, every night from his mother before going to sleep. This process lasted for almost 5-6 years and he thus got an opportunity to listen to around 1500 to 2000 stories. This highly cultured and religious family background, cultivated the Sanskars of faith in God and Bhakti in Haribhai ever since his childhood. Plus he also got a gift of unique expression capacity by regularly listening stories from his mother and by watching at his father's art of presenting difficult and complicated subjects with great ease with relevant examples.

Green and peaceful surroundings of Mulund nurtured his physical and mental health.

At that time Mulund was thinly populated and it was totally unpolluted and was blessed by nature with greenery and hills. That was great for any child's health, both physical and mental. There was ample free space and it was like a play ground everywhere. Thus From his childhood he got ample opportunities to love mother nature. The house of Haribhai was near Jain Derashar (temple), therefore he got an opportunity to be acquainted with Jain religion since his childhood. He used to go with his friends to Jain temple and was used to participate in various religious practices, pravachanas of Jain Religion. In fact he studied Chapter 3, 12, 13, 15, and 16 of Bhagavd Gita in the Pathshala of Jain temple itself. Due to his exposures to multi religions he got an inspiration of not to restrict him self to narrow walls of religions and specific groups. That is the reason why, today, he is one of the rare person who is equally popular amongst people of different religions.
